Congratulations to Oliver Peacock, Elk River Club Director of Golf for his first place win in the Carolinas PGA Head Professional Tournament held at the Debordieu Club on Tuesday. Peacock shot a 1-under-par 71 Tuesday for a 3-under 141 total and four-shot win.
"I haven't played in the mountains in six months," Peacock said. "We've had a lot of snow up there. So I'm not really used to my yardages in the mountains because I haven't really played up there. Fortunately I had a couple opportunities to play practice rounds here and kind of went from there."
Peacock shot a 70 in the opening round and took a two-shot lead into Tuesday's final round. He then fired a 2-under 34 on the back to pull away. Peacock birdied the par-5 11th and 198-yard par-3 16th hole with a 5-iron to 6 feet, then bogeyed the par-4 17th when his approach was short of the green and he missed a 15-foot par putt. Peacock closed the tournament by holing a 22-foot birdie putt on the 568-yard par-5 18th, which hugs water on the right.
"I felt like if I got the ball on the green in regulation I'd be OK," Peacock said. "I had confidence with the putter coming down the stretch."
Congratulations to Oliver on this impressive win!
